About Me

Born in 1971 in Pamukova, Sakarya, Prof. Dr. Volkan Tuğcu graduated from the Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1997. He completed his specialty training in urology between 1999 and 2003 at the Bezm-i Alem Valide Sultan Foundation Gureba Training and Research Hospital. He achieved the rank of associate professor in 2010 and was elevated to full professor in 2017.

Prof. Dr. Tuğcu is an internationally recognized surgeon and academician. He has made significant contributions to medical literature with his innovative "Tuğcu Bakırköy Technique" in robotic surgery, which is sought after globally. Throughout his career, he has performed over 2,000 robotic surgeries and has pioneered robotic kidney transplantation on a global scale.

Having published over 100 articles and 10 book chapters in international peer-reviewed journals, Tuğcu's work has been cited 1,864 times. His scientific achievements have been acknowledged with best video and best poster awards at international congresses. In addition, he was honored with the Physician of the Year Award by the Ministry of Health in 2016.

Prof. Dr. Tuğcu is also prominent as an educator, having trained over 100 urology specialists in robotic and laparoscopic surgery both domestically and internationally, significantly contributing to the development of these fields in Turkey. His areas of interest include robotic surgery for prostate, bladder, and kidney cancers, non-surgical treatment of prostate cancer with HIFU, and advanced laser systems.

Currently running his private practice, Prof. Dr. Volkan Tuğcu, for whom a street in his hometown Pamukova is named, continues to serve as a trainer at various scientific events.
