Born in 1971 in the Pamukova district of Sakarya, Prof. Dr. Volkan Tuğcu graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Bursa Uludağ University in 1997. He completed his residency training at the Bezm-i Alem Valide Sultan Vakıf Gureba Training and Research Hospital Urology Clinic between 1999 and 2003. He continued his academic career by receiving the title of associate professor in 2010 and was promoted to professor in 2017.

Prof. Dr. Tuğcu is an internationally recognized surgeon and academician. He contributed to the medical literature with the robotic surgery method he developed, called the "Tuğcu Bakırköy Technique," which has been preferred by many surgeons worldwide to learn. Throughout his professional career, he has performed over 3000 robotic surgery operations and has pioneered groundbreaking work in robotic kidney transplantation globally.

The name of Prof. Dr. Volkan Tuğcu was given to the street where he was born in his hometown Pamukova by the Municipal Council.

Prof. Dr. Volkan Tuğcu has performed over 3000 robotic surgeries and is among the few surgeons in the world who have applied the most robotic surgery. He has made a name for himself in the World Medical Literature with the method he developed, known as the "Tuğcu Bakırköy Technique." Tuğcu has been invited to many countries to teach this technique to foreign doctors, visiting these countries to teach his technique. Many doctors from countries like Italy, Germany, Spain, Russia, and India have come and continue to come to learn this technique from Prof. Dr. Tuğcu.

Prof. Dr. Volkan Tuğcu is highly experienced in performing perineal robotic surgery, a technique applied through the perineal region for patients who cannot undergo robotic surgery due to previous abdominal surgeries. He has performed this method on over 150 patients.

In 2015, Prof. Dr. Volkan Tuğcu was the first to perform robotic kidney transplantation in Turkey, and with 90 robotic kidney transplants, he ranks second in the world. In a 2017 congress, transplant surgeons from the Upstate Medical School in America watched Prof. Dr. Volkan Tuğcu perform a robotic kidney transplant live.

Prof. Dr. Tuğcu has published over 100 articles and 10 book chapters in international peer-reviewed journals. His works have been cited 1,864 times. His scientific achievements have been recognized with best video and best poster awards at international congresses. Additionally, he was awarded the Doctor of the Year Award by the Ministry of Health in 2016.

Prof. Dr. Tuğcu received the Istanbul Governorship Provincial Health Directorate’s commendation for outstanding effort in 2007 and 2008. Known for his role as an educator, Tuğcu has trained over 100 urology specialists in robotic and laparoscopic surgery both domestically and internationally, significantly contributing to the development of these fields in Turkey. His areas of interest include robotic surgery in the treatment of prostate, bladder, and kidney cancers, non-surgical treatment of prostate cancer with HIFU, and advanced technology laser systems.

Prof. Dr. Volkan Tuğcu currently accepts patients at his private clinic and serves as an instructor at various scientific events.
